Belgrade Fortress lays on the The junction of the River Sava and Danube, in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.
In the old days all of the population lived within the enclosed perimeter of the fortress, Belgrade Fortress is also known as -”The Kalemegdan fortress”.
The name Kalemegdan comes from Turkish: kale (in English - fortress) and megdan (in English – Battlefield) (“Battlefield Fortress”).
